  • Second Chance Checking Accounts

A good way to get a new checking account is to find a bank that offers a second chance checking account program. A number of banks have this type of checking account for people who have had a tough history with bank accounts. Not all second chance checking accounts are free, but if you are able to find one that is free or has a low monthly fee, then you are in luck. Most of the second chance checking accounts that I have read about offer you the ability to write checks and use a debit card. Make sure to keep a good record and never fall close to a zero balance in your bank accounts, because it is not good news if you end up getting non sufficient funds fees with a second chance checking account. The reason is because they might close your account if you end up getting them. It will be good to keep at least a few hundred dollars in your checking account, and then you could pretend that it is not in there so you do not end up touching it.

Both regular banks and credit unions will offer second chance checking accounts, but you might like using a credit union better than a traditional bank. Although you might not think that you could get a bank account with a credit union, they are actually pretty easy to join depending on the bank. You will be able to qualify for a credit union, although not all of them, by just merely living in the same city. Some of them will let you join if you work for a certain employer. Either way, it is usually not that hard to join a credit union and get a second chance checking account. Although your first preference is to get a new bank account with a bank that is close to where you live, that might not always be the case for your situation. You might have to end up getting a bank account with a bank that is either not close to you or is an online account. Considering the benefits of having a checking account, it is worth it to get a checking account from a bank that is not close to you. You could simply put money into your account by setting up a direct deposit, and some banks will either have a large number of free ATMs you could withdraw money from, or they could give you a free refund, but not all of them will offer that kind of service. So if you are in need of a new bank account, try to find a bank that has second chance checking.
